Tidewater Traverse Adventure Race

Hampton Roads Adventure is excited to announce the 2010 Tidewater Traverse Adventure Race. This years race will be held near West Point, VA on September 25-26, 2010. Clear your schedule and get ready for us!
Location: West Point, VA. Exact start location will be revealed at a later date.

Length: 18 Hours
Checkpoint Tracker Series: The Tidewater Traverse is part of the Checkpoint Tracker Series! Create your profile and team on their site to earn series points in the Tidewater Traverse.

Support crews: This is an unsupported race. No support crews are required (or allowed on course)
Distances:
- Biking: 50-70 miles
- Paddling: 15-20 miles
- Trekking: 15-20 miles
- 100% map and compass navigation
Race Check-in:
Race check-in will be open at the Start/Finish line on Saturday, September 25th from 3pm-7pm. Once you have finished check-in, you will be given your maps and many of the UTMs for the race. Arrive early enough to make a boat drop (1 hour max round trip)

Boats:
Teams are responsible for providing their own watercraft. There is a pre-race boat drop. Single canoes or kayaks up to 18′ 11″ (min 21″ width) in length and tandems+ up to 23′ 11″ (min 26″ width) in any combination may be used for this race. No racing boats/surfskis please.

Mandatory Gear:
**GPS devices are not permitted**
- All individual team members must have the following at all times while racing:
- Compass
- Rain Coat (poncho NOT sufficient)
- Whistle
- Emergency Blanket
- Headlamp with Spare Batteries
- Reflective Tape: 6″ in length to be worn on pack
- Two 12 Hour Illumination Stick
- Fleece (or wool) top
- Fleece (or wool) hat
- All teams must carry the following at all times while racing:
- Cell Phone
- First Aid Kit (minimum contents listed below)
- Pen or pencil
- Two Emergency Handheld Flares
- Knife (2″ minimum, folding acceptable)
- All individual team members must also have the following during biking legs:
- Mountain bike (no road bikes or cyclocross bikes permitted)
- Bike helmet
- Front mounted bike light (white)
- Rear mounted bike light (red)
- Reflective Tape (to be worn on helmet)
- One Spare Tube
- All teams must also carry the following during biking legs:
- Bike repair kit (such as patch kit, tire levers, extra tubes)
- Tire pump or CO2 inflator
- All individual team members must also have the following during paddling legs:
- PFD’s (Coast Guard approved type 3 minimum, non-inflatable)
- 12 Hour Illumination stick attached to PFD (one of the two mandatory sticks)
- All teams must also have the following during paddling legs:
- Appropriate boats (see section on boats)
- Bailer or Bilge Pump
- Throw Bag (30′ or longer)
- Two Illumination Sticks (any color). One on the bow, one on the stern of each boat
- First Aid Kit Minimum Contents:
- antibacterial ointment
- 3 adhesive bandages (Band-Aids, etc)
- 3” ace bandage
- 3 doses of anti-inflammatory (ibuprofen, etc)
- 3 doses of anti-histamines (Benadryl, etc)
